Velvet has a long history and has been produced in large quantities in the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the traditional Chinese fabrics. It originated in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China, so it is also known as velvet. Velvet has two types of flower velvet and velvet. The flower velvet is to cut part of the pile ring into fluff according to the pattern, and the fluff and the loop are interlaced to form a pattern. The surface of the velvet is all looped. The velvet fluff or velvet ring stands tightly, and has the characteristics of luster, wear resistance and fading, and can be used for clothing, bedding and other fabrics.
The velvet fabric is made of armor-grade raw silk, which is also made of silk, and the cotton yarn is weft-interlaced, with silk or rayon pile loops. Both warp and weft are first degummed or semi-degummed, dyed, and weaved after twisting. Depending on the application, we can use different raw materials for weaving. In addition to the silk and rayon mentioned above, we can also weave them with different materials such as cotton, eye, viscose, polyester and nylon. So the velvet fabric is not really woven with velvet, but its feel and texture are as smooth and shiny as velvet.
